The Carolina Herrera showed off a lighter side for her Spring 2012 collection prom dresses shown during New York Fashion Week. Carolina Herrera’s bridal couture is usually a direct reflection of the tailored elegance found in her signature evening wear looks. These silhouettes that were ultra-modern though no less stunning. A jovial color palette of canary yellow, sage green and rosy red took to the runway in airy gowns, day dresses and lightweight jackets.

As a counterpoint to the organic, Herrera went geometric. The idea popped nicely in a trio of black and white dresses, and of course when the motif read Art Deco in bugle-beaded evening looks, it was a perfect fit. When it comes to evening, Herrera’s ambitions can sometimes get the better of her, and there were a couple instances of that here. Trying to marry canary yellow jacquard silk with dotted chiffon and big panels of embroidery is just a case of attempting too much at one time.
